| GEAR Celebrates the 85th Anniversary of the First Australian Grand Prix |

(GEAR) is organising a celebration of the 85th Anniversary of the 1st
Australian Grand Prix which was held in Goulburn on the 15th January
1927. Events will be held over Friday, Saturday and Sunday the
13th, 14th and 15th January 2012 at Belmore Park and Wakefield
Park Goulburn N.S.W. Celebrations will commence on Friday the 13th at around 10am in Goulburn with a display of vintage racing cars, vintage cars and vintage motorcycles in Montague Street. Some racing cars representative of the AGP through the years will be there. In the park adjacent (Belmore Park), there will be entertainment, an official opening of the celebrations and in the evening there will be a free outdoor movie show. The movies to be screened will include comedies of the 1920s. Throughout the day, a competition is planned for people dressed in period costume - local dignitaries will select the most appropriate costumes. Other activities involving the community are planned. On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th, there will be regularity events including the Bol d’Or for eligible cars on the approved Wakefield Park circuits and Hill Climb events run on the Wakefield Park approved Hill Climb circuit. All vehicles will travel in a clockwise direction only, on the short and long circuits unless otherwise directed. . The following fields are proposed: · Vintage Voiturettes manufactured prior to 1931 under 1300cc (The Bol d’or) · Vintage cars manufactured prior to 1931 (Geoff Meredith Regularity Trial) · Pre-WWII cars manufactured between 1931 and 1940 (Peter White Regularity Trial) · Post WWII cars manufactured between 1941 and 1965 (Don Harkness Regularity Trial) · Motorcycles Group 1 (Spencer Stratton Regularity Trial) · Motorcycles Group 2 ( S Holmes Regularity Trial) · Motorcycle Outfit (Sid Holt Regularity Trial) · Time permitting there will be Butchers’ Picnic Regularity Trials of 5 laps. On Sunday morning, at the same time as the track events, there will be the annual motorcycle only swap meet at the Goulburn Showground, site of the first Grand Prix. | ||
